A769662isapotentandselectivesmall-moleculeactivatorofAMP-activatedproteinkinase(AMPK).ItinducesallostericactivationofAMPKandinhibitionofdephosphorylationofAMPKonThr-172,similartotheeffectsofAMP.TheactivationofAMPKinhibitsmTORsignaling,whichisapositiveeffectorofcellgrowthandsurvival.A769662stimulatedpartiallypurifiedratliverAMPKwithanEC50of0.8µMandinhibitedfattyacidsynthesisinprimaryrathepatocyteswithanIC50of3.2µM.ItcanalsostimulateNa+,K+-ATPaseactivityinskeletalmusclecells.
