N-hydroxysulfosuccinimide (Sulfo-NHS) is used in conjunction with EDC-HCl (EDAC-HCl) to convert carboxyl groups to Sulfo-NHS esters which react with primary amines.Sulfo-NHS is used as the catalyst for EDC-HCl coupling and greatly increases the efficiency of the reaction. Sulfo-NHS is ideal for covalently binding protein or peptides to carboxyl containing beads, resins, or other nanoparticals. Sulfo-NHS is water soluble, thus the reaction can take place at physiological conditions.
