Pointe Scientific was started by a group of six (6) partners in 1981; all of the partners had backgrounds in the clinical laboratory market. The company was originally housed in a small building on East Warren Avenue on Detroit's East Side owned by one of the partners. The location of the building was very close to the Grosse Pointe area and thus the name Pointe. In 1984, the partners purchased a building on Warren Avenue in Detroit, not far from the original location. The larger building allowed Pointe to expand production space and lab space and hire more employees. In 1987, Pointe Scientific moved to a larger facility in Lincoln Park, a suburb of outside Detroit and closer to major expressways and the Detroit Metropolitan Airport helping facilitate the growing national and international business. In 2004, Pointe Scientific designed and built a new building (25,000 square feet) in Canton in the Western part of the Detroit Metro Area and near the city of Ann Arbor. The new facility offered a much larger warehouse area with room to add more walk-in refrigerators and freezers as well as an expanded laboratory area to house all the instrumentation needed for quality control as well as research and development. In June 2013, Pointe Scientific was acquired by MedTest Holdings, the parent company of Medical Laboratory Solutions, MedTest DX, and Clinitox Diagnostix. Combined, Pointe Scientific, MLS, MedTest DX, and Clinitox Diagnostix offer a diversified portfolio of over 400 clinical diagnostic products with continuous additions of new and innovative products. The products are sold in the United States on a national level and internationally to over 75 countries worldwide. Pointe Scientific is compliant with all current GMP regulations, is ISO Certified, and carries a CE mark on the majority of its products.
