Hexyl-4-pentynoic acid is a valproic acid analog. Histone deacetylase(HDAC) inhibitor, IC₅₀=13 mM¹.More potent and robust than valproic acid at inducing histone hyperacetylation(600% at 50 mM), HSP70 induction and protection againstglutamate excitotoxicity in cultured neurons. Cell permeable.
