Ent-DSPE/Ent-2,3-Distearoyl-sn-Glycero-1-Phosphoethanolamine is an enantiomer of DSPE/2,3-distearoyl-sn-glycero-1-phosphoethanolamine.

Enantiomers are a type of stereoisomers that are non-overlayable mirror images of each other. They have the same chemical formula, but different three-dimensional structures.

DSPE belongs to a group of phospholipids that are acylated with saturated long-chain C18:0 fatty acids.

As a phospholipid, the compound is mainly found in biological membranes and has structural and functional roles, essential to them.

DSPE also serves as an important precursor for various conjugates, widely used in drug delivery applications. These specific DSPE conjugates are the subject of an emerging interest in their use for generation of nanoparticles and artificial membranes.

In recent years, studies with DSPE polymers have been carried out on improving the absorption of poorly water-soluble brain-targeted anticancer drugs and macromolecules through pulmonary membranes. Positive feedback has been reported with evidence that DSPE polymers do not induce damage to the tissues.

Ent-DSPE is intended for use as a compound in DSPE-based analyses, along with the evaluation of other phospholipid roles and effects.
