Description: 
GCaMPisageneticallyencodedcalciumindicator(GECI)andcreatedfromafusionofgreenfluorescentprotein(GFP),calmodulin(CaM),andM13,apeptidesequencefrommyosinlightchainkinase. WhenGECIbindsCa2+,theconformationalchangeofGCaMP inducesproximityofthe GFPparts,eliciting strongGFPfluorescencesignal,whichallowsmeasuringactionpotentialsandotherreceptoractivationeventsthattriggerCa2+influx.TheadvantageofGECI"sarethattheycanbegeneticallyspecifiedforstudiesinlivingorganisms.

GCaMP6isanovelultra-sensitiveformatofGCaMPthatoutperformedothersensorsintermsofaccuracyandsensitivityinmeasuringcytosolCa2+level. MutationsincalmodulinpartofGCaMP6createdseveralvariants whichshoweddifferentcalciumfluorescencedecayrate(fast- GCamP6f, slow -GCaMP6f andmedium-GCaMP6m).
