Naturalantibodies:AntibodiestoIFN-alphahavebeenreportedinpatientswithvariousautoimmunedisorders.AntibodiestoIFN-alphaweredetectedintheserumofpatientswithsystemiclupuserythematosus.TherearereportsofnaturalantibodiestoIFN-alphainpatientssufferingfromherpeszosterinfections,andvaricellazosterdisease.SpontaneousantibodiestoIFN-alphawereshowntooccurinseraofvariouscancerpatients.
Therapeuticallyinducedantibodies:FormationofantibodiesagainstIFN-alphahasbeenreportedinpatientsaftertreatmentwithallavailablehumanIFNpreparationsregardlessoftheircompositionandsubtypes.MoreandmorereportsindicatethatrelapsesaftersuccessfulIFN-alphatherapycoincidetheformationofneutralizingantibodiesagainstIFN-alpha.
Leukemias/lymphomas:ClinicalresistanceandIFN-alphaantibodieshavebeenfoundinpatientswithhairycellleukemia,chronicmyeloidleukemia,chroniclymphoidleukemia,multiplemyeloma,essentialthrombocytemia,preleukemia,andKaposi"ssarcoma.
Solidtumors:TreatmentofpatientswithsolidtumorsmayalsoinduceIFN-alphaantibodyformationasshownfor:malignantmelanoma,renalcellcarcinoma,nasopharyngealcarcinoma,breastcarcinoma,variousadvancedcarcinomas,urinarybladdercarcinomaandgenitalaswellasrespiratorypapillomatosis.
