MEMcontainsnoproteins,lipids,orgrowthfactors.Therefore,MEMrequiressupplementation,commonlywith10%FetalBovineSerum(FBS).MEMusesasodiumbicarbonatebuffersystem(2.2g/L)andthereforerequiresa5–10%CO2environmenttomaintainphysiologicalpH.PowderformsofGibco®cellculturemediumrequiresodiumbicarbonatesupplementation,pHadjustment,andfiltrationatthetimeofpreparation(seeprotocolfordetails).
