Chloramphenicol, also known as chlornitromycin, is effective against a wide variety ofGram-positiveandGram-negativebacteria, including mostanaerobic organisms. Due to resistance and safety concerns, it is no longer afirst-line agent for any infection in developed nations, with the notable exception of topical treatment of bacterialconjunctivitis. The chloramphenicol antibody agarose is useful and highly efficient for affinity isolation, purification and enrichment of chloramphenicol from complex analytical samples.
