Bouin's solution is a fixative often used to enhance nuclear fixation. It is a popular fixative for embryonic studies and skin, due to its excellent preservation of nuclei and chromosomes. Bouin's is very compatible with the Verheoff / Van Gieson stain due to its mordanting effect on the tissue. Bouins Solution is particularly useful for fixation of tissues. It is often recommended for fixation of testis, gastrointestinal tract, and endocrine tissue. It can also be used to for fixation of hematopoietic tissues and does not require dezenkerizing before staining.
