The luciferase from firefly Photinus pyralis or Lampyristurkestanicus is the most used bioluminescent reporter and is a monomericprotein of 61kDa. The enzymatic reaction byFirefly-Luciferase catalyses the conversion from D-Luciferin to Oxyluciferinand the emission of light. This oxidation requires ATP.
