Porphobilinogen is an intermediate in the heme synthesis pathway produced from d-Amino-levulinic acid in a reaction catalyzed by the enzyme ALA dehydrogenase. Porphobilinogen is converted to Hydroxylmethyl bilane in a reaction catalyzed by the enzyme Porphobilinogen Deaminase.
