FetalPlex™ is an engineered complex of animal sera, supplementedwith a defined blend of vitamins, amino acids, triglycerides andtrace elements. This proprietary formulation yields a serum thatwill, for many routine applications, replace fetal bovine serumat a much lower cost. Biochemical characteristics are comparableto fetal bovine serum, except for an increase in the totalprotein content. Also, cholesterol levels are slightly higherthan in fetal bovine sera. FetalPlex™ is not intended to replacefetal bovine serum where low total-protein concentrations arecritical, or where the trouble-free biochemistry of FBS is theonly choice for fastidious cell lines or specializedapplications. FetalPlex™ has proven useful and cost-effective forthe growth and maintenance of a broad range of cell types.
