BACKGROUND:ACADLbelongstotheacyl-CoAdehydrogenasefamily,whichisafamilyofmitochondrialflavoenzymesinvolvedinfattyacidandbranchedchainamino-acidmetabolism.Thisproteinisoneofthefourenzymesthatcatalyzetheinitialstepofmitochondrialbeta-oxidationofstraight-chainfattyacid.DefectsinACADLgenearethecauseoflong-chainacyl-CoAdehydrogenase(LCAD)deficiency,leADIngtononketotichypoglycemia.Theproteinencodedbythisgenebelongstotheacyl-CoAdehydrogenasefamily,whichisafamilyofmitochondrialflavoenzymesinvolvedinfattyacidandbranchedchainamino-acidmetabolism.Thisproteinisoneofthefourenzymesthatcatalyzetheinitialstepofmitochondrialbeta-oxidationofstraight-chainfattyacid.Defectsinthisgenearethecauseoflong-chainacyl-CoAdehydrogenase(LCAD)deficiency,leadingtononketotichypoglycemia.
