Background

SerumamyloidAproteins(SAA)representsafamilyofapolipoproteinsthatcirculatesinassociationwithhigh-densitylipoproteins(HDL).Thelevelofapo-SAA,normally1-5μg/mLinplasma,increases500-1000foldwithin24hoursofaninflammatorystimulusand,undertheseconditions,isthemostabundantHDLapo-lipoprotein.ThehumanSAAgenecodesfora122aminoacidnonglycosylatedpolypeptide,whichcontainsan18aminoacidN-terminalsequence.Recombinanthumanapo-SAA1isan11.7kDaproteincontaining105aminoacidresidues.
