Company Overview: Norgen Biotek Corp. is an innovative, biotechnology company focusing principally on advancing novel, innovative sample preparation products for nucleic acid (DNA & RNA) and protein purification, clean-up and concentration. Norgen has one platform technology with many applications based on a proprietary resin that can be applied in the purification of DNA, RNA and proteins. The uniqueness and novelty of this technology has been recognized by the National Research Council through awarding Norgen the prestigious “Innovation Leader Award for 2003”. The company holds more than a dozen issued patents and several others are pending. Norgen currently manufactures over 40 products that are used by researchers working in genomics and proteomics in academia, pharma/biotech companies, and government institutions. These products are based on Norgen’s novel technology and include: 1. RNA purification kits : Norgen manufactures the leading products in the world for the purification of total RNA, microRNA, cy toplasmic and nuclear RNA, and RNA from the exfoliated cells found in urine. Norgen’s RNA kits are the only kits in the world that isolate true total RNA (including microRNA) without the use of phenol extraction steps. Simply stated, our kits are currently the Gold Standard in the RNA purification area, offering many significant competitive advantages. Due to the fact that Norgen’s RNA purification products do not involve phase separation based on the use of phenol, they can easily be adapted to isolate total RNA, including microRNA, in high throughput. In addition, Norgen is also pioneering kits for macromolecule fractionation using one column without sample splitting. Towards this goal, Norgen has developed the RNA/DNA/Protein Kit (3-in-1) for purification of all 3 macromolecules from one sample sequentially. In addition, a recent product has been developed that added microRNA fractionation to the RNA/DNA/Protein Kit, termed the All-in-One Purification Kit (4-in-1). These products are unique and novel and offer a substantial cost and time savings over sample splitting and a several-column approach. These powerful and novel tools are designed for researchers who are interested in studying the genome, proteome and transcriptome of a single sample, such as for studies of gene expression including gene silencing experiments or mRNA knock-downs and studies involving biomarker discovery. 2. ProteoSpin™ brand protein kits : For desalting, detergent and endotoxin removal, concentration, inclusion body screening, abundant serum protein depletion, urine protein concentration and on-column peptide preparation for mass spec analysis. 3. DNA kits: For plasmid isolation, PCR purification, gel extraction, eukaryotic and prokaryotic genomic DNA isolation, and front-end sample preparation for diagnostics and forensic applications (including milk bacterial DNA isolation, urine bacterial DNA isolation, saliva DNA isolation, and urine DNA isolation). 4. Molecular weight ladders : A broad range of DNA, RNA and protein ladders are available. Company Location Norgen is located in a new, 24,000 square foot state-of-the-art facility in the middle of Niagara region, Ontario, Canada one block from Brock University. We are only 30 minutes from Buffalo and 1 hour from Toron to. Also, Niagara Falls and the wineries of Niagara-on-the-Lake are located within 10 minutes of the facility. The building itself is on a large property adjacent to the 406 Highway in Thorold’s technology district, and the property offers much room for expansion.
