ThepolyclonalantibodyrecognizesmouseSpi-6,alsoknownasserpinB9,acytoplasmicserineproteaseinhibitorof~42kD.Spi-6isexpressedindendriticcells,lymphocytesandspecificcelltypesatimmune-privilegedsites.ItinactivatesgranzymeB,anaturaloccurringinducerofprogrammedcelldeath.Assuch,Spi-6functionsasanti-apoptoticprotein.IncytotxicTcells(CTL),Spi-6isrequiredtoprotectclonalbursts(expansion)fromgranzymeBinducedcelldeath.However,itisnotrequiredforthedevelopmentofmemorycells.ExpressionofSPI-6isofcrucialimportanceintheescapeofseveraltumorsfromaCTLresponseandis,therefore,aparameterthatinfluencesthefeasibilityofCTL-mediatedimmunotherapyofcancer.ThepolyclonalantibodyshowsnocrossreactivitywithmouseproteinsrelatedtoSpi-6.
